1. Tonight starts the Food Network’s Tournament of Champions. Love this! I can’t wait to see which (female) chef wins this year!

2. Last Wednesday was the parade and rally to celebrate the Super Bowl win by the Kansas City Chiefs. I was not there, but of course I heard about little else in the following days. Just as the rally was ending, shots rang out. I think it was a dispute between two teens, and one of them pulled out a gun in a crowd and made really bad decisions. Eight children were shot. We are all fortunate that all the injured children are okay, physically, but I know that this has affected a lot of people mentally. But we are already starting to bounce back, with the hashtag #KCStrong making the rounds. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this, and i hope that we all continue to heal.

3. I haven’t spoken about this much, but between Christmas and New Year’s, my mother had a small stroke. She is doing okay and working hard at her physical and occupational therapy, but it’s not enough for her to go back to living on her own. She spent several weeks in skilled nursing, and this last week, we moved her into long-term care, where she can receive the support she needs. It’s been difficult and bittersweet, but we are doing our best. There have been a lot of details to take care of, and I’m still working down that list. But she is okay, and she is safe, and that’s what is most important.
